Rabindra Sarobar will remain closed to the public on March 12 and 13, but certain clubs have been granted entry, sparking protests. On Tuesday, Lake Lovers Forum and morning walkers gathered at Gate No. 12, alleging a violation of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order that restricts public access to the eco-sensitive zone.
They questioned why officials allowed private groups while enforcing a ban on general visitors. Protesters also alleged ongoing construction inside the premises, claiming it violates NGT directives. A complaint has been filed with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma has been informed via email.
Activists demand equal enforcement of restrictions and immediate action against alleged rule violations. The controversy follows similar concerns raised during Chhath Puja. With Holi approaching, activists warn of further violations. Authorities have not yet responded to the complaints.
